With Leroy in a cell back at base, waiting for his day in court, the two cops resumed their patrol. Nothing had been called in on the radio yet, so Roy took the opportunity to school Bert.
"You're a good kid Bert, but you've got to keep your head. Policing isn't just diving into a situation head first, you have to sit back and take it in. Chasing crims is too much work for an old guy like me." He joked, "You have to work out how to make them come to you."
"Right. Got it."
"And don't always be so serious, you can be a good cop and still have some fun."
The radio buzzed in from dispatch. "Officer Dullins, we have an emergency call from 36 Hall Avenue in Smithsfield. The line cut off, but we traced the call. Probably a prank call, but check it out."
"No worries Alice, we've got it covered."
Bert set the address into the GPS as Roy turned the patrol car around and turned on the lights.
"You ready Bert? I'll let you take the lead on this one. Just remember, do all your thinking up front and you'll do alright."
"Taking the lead on a prank call? Gee, thanks Roy."
For once Roy didn't have a smile on his face.
"I've got a feeling it's not going to be that easy."
