He picked up the electric gun and shook it.  Damn, it was almost out of juice, and the aliens were coming in fast.  They were on animals that smelled horrible, lidless white eyes glaring out from their faces, lighting up the brush for miles.

He lay flat in the grass, hoping they wouldn't see his clothing, or see him move.  He hoped they wouldn't see his eyes, bright green in the white/yellow light.  It was night here, and he knew - or hoped - they wouldn't see him.

He heard them making loud noises, as their beasts paused, dust coming up around them.  They spoke loudly, in a language he didn't know and had chosen not to learn.  Damn, he wished J'kara was alive.  She would tell them what these creatures were saying.

Their beasts swallowed them, and they separated, two going one direction, toward the crash, another going away from the crash, and one coming straight for him.  He threw his hands up to protect a tender part of his anatomy and the beast rolled past him, just a bit from his foot.
