I stepped outside of my office. Alannah was still shuffling through papers by the cabinet, and I couldn't help but smile. I loved seeing my co-workers get so irked at me. If only they'd yell at me every once and a while.
Suddenly, the door to my left opened. In walked Randall. "Where've you been?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Randall shrugged and walked past me.
He just shrugged me away! I thought. I spun around and grabbed him by the shoulder. "What the crap was that?!"
Randall looked back at me, but then shifted his gaze.
"When I ask you a question, answer it!" I yelled, shaking him.
He nodded. "Sorry boss...I was just having some food with Mrs. Bell."
"Of course you were. Of course you were!"
"I'm sorry, I don't under-"
"Why isn't anyone asking me before they go off and talk to suspects?!"
"Should I not have-"
"No its fine, I'm just tired of not being informed. What'd she say?"
"Nothing of importance."
I slapped my forehead. "There we go again! 'Nothing of importance,' is just another way of saying 'I don't want to tell you!'"
"No boss, it's not like that," he said calmly.
"Shut up," I snapped. I turned to Alannah. "Where's Charlie?"
Alannah looked up at me, giving me a cold stare. "I don't know."
"Of course you don't," I said with a sigh. "Alannah, empty the cabinet."
"Empty it NOW!"
Alannah quickly tossed all of the papers onto the floor. I smiled at her. "Why'd you ask me to do that?" she asked, puzzled.
"You are now the good agent. Randall, clean up this mess. Meaning, you take Alannah's job."
Alannah smiled proudly and stood. She winked at Randall, who looked wide eyed at the papers that laid all around the room.
"Boss, you don't mean-" Randall stuttered.
"Randall, shut up and get to work."
Randall sighed and then began to pick up the papers.
I turned to look at Alannah. "You're a girl, maybe Mrs. Bell will listen to you," I said with a nod. "Randall's never been good with women," I added with a whisper.
Randall heard me and shot me a look.
"Stop staring, and clean up this mess! I don't have all day." I walked back towards my office door.
I heard Alannah squeal in delight. I shifted my gaze to see her skip out the door. I grinned. "Now the where in the world is Charlie?!" I flipped out my cell and dialed her number. I feel like a babysitter.
