I opened the door and stepped out. I looked over at the chief of police, John King, and smiled. "What do we got, Chief?"
I joined King's side and walked with him towards the crime scene. "Animal attack, the zookeeper was found dead in the tiger's cage."
"Who found him?"
"The animal feeders were on their usual route to feed the tiger, and they found him laying there."
We approached the crime scene and I glanced in. There was a LOT of blood. It looked like the tiger had mauled the man pretty bad. "Gloves," I said, throwing out my hands.
King pulled a pair out of his pocket and tossed them to me. I slipped the rubbery hands onto mine carefully. "I'm going to go check it out," I said.
King opened the door for me, and I descended down a flight of stairs. I stepped onto the dirt and walked towards the victim. I bent down and felt his claw wounds. "Pretty deep, definitely from a tiger."
King nodded through the fence.
"Why was he in here, anyway?"
"That, we don't know."
I stood and stared at the body once more. I kept my eyes on him for a while, and said nothing. Finally I turned and looked back up at King. "Where the heck is my unit?"
