I trudged up the hill, muttering. The camp. Oh joy. I could just see everyone watching me, all the time, never trusting me. Because I'm the daughter of... Eris. The goddess of discord, the one that started the Trojan war, the one everyone hates. In fact, I took after her quite a bit. At the moment, I had twelve golden apples in my backpack.
"To the fairest." I said, smiling. "There's no Paris here to judge now." I got to the top of the hill, and went down to the camp. I smiled. My short blonde hair and blue eyes made me look rather innocent, but anyone looking deeper would know me. I would go cold, my eyes like ice.
I stared at the sun, leaning over the horizon. I skipped along, and through the camp. I snarled, trying to push the sun back down under the horizon. I sat down on a log.
"Don't try that." someone said from behind me. A boy stood behind me. I snarled at him. I pulled a golden apple from my pocket, but then decided a different approach.
"Who are you?" I asked, in a sweet voice.
"I'm Cyrus, son of Helios." That explained why he didn't want me stopping the sun.
"I'm Nadine, daughter of Eris."
"That explains a lot." he said scathingly.
"Of course." I said, smiling. I saw his eyes narrow, and I knew he saw through me. I let my smile drop, and I felt the transition from sickly-sweet girl to cold-as-ice-girl. "Get yourself out of here before I throw an apple at you." I said.
"Wow, you are nice." he said. "Feel like starting a war today?"
"Yes, in fact. And again: leave me alone before I throw an apple at your backside." He walked away. I smiled at myself, despite the sun that was now glaring at me. And then I noticed another girl walking towards me.
"Who are you?" she asked. I could feel darkness around her.
"I'm Nadine, daughter of Eris! I can tell you and I will get along just fine."
"I'm Kat, daughter of Hades."
"Just like I thought!" I smiled, my true smile, a smile of malevolent happiness.
