Not Nearly as Well-Thought-Out as Yours

I noticed, upon reading through this, that a lot of people write for themselves. At first the notion struck me as sort of odd, as I was positive I wrote for anything but myself, but now that I really think about it, I think I might as well.

Let me explain.

If you'd asked me, before now, why I write, I would have told you in a heartbeat, "I write for others." I write to entertain, to bring about a laugh usually but also to illicit other emotions, to intrigue, to amuse, to make you wonder, to make you smile.

However, I don't do so unconditionally. A lack of response to my writing disheartens me, and then I stop writing, and then I have nothing to respond to, and the vicious cycle goes on and on.

So, you know, maybe it's true that I write for you, and it's just that when you don't like it, I don't see the point in writing.

Who knows!

Not me. Make of it what you will, this is why I write.

How about you?

The End
