Because nobody else does

Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean what you probably think it means.

I write because nobody else (that I know of) writes exactly what I want to read. I want a certain kind of story: quirky but serious, fast-paced action coupled with a good story line, characters that are funny but have a real base and soul, who can be laughing one minute and hacking apart their enemies the next. I try to write what I want to read. Generally I fail and the story gets no further than a page in one of my notebooks, but occasionally I like where a story is going, and I keep at it. And sometimes these end up here.

I also write because I'm bored. But not bored as in 'nothing to do, might as well write', bored as in bored of this world. This world is boring, it contains no magic, no heros, no villains, no robot armies, no space travel, no lazer guns, no dragons (in fact, no mythical beasts at all) and no ancient and mysterious civilisations that worked thing that should not have be wrought etc. So I write to create worlds that do conform to my imagination. I write for the same reason I read and game: to escape. I know that's a little cliché, but it's the truth. I want to experience a different reality, and not yet having had the life experience to have experimented with anything drug related, these are the only ways I can do it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suicidal or anything, I just think that the world needs a serious re-write to improve the setting.

As to why I write on Protagonize, there are two reasons:

1: I write here because I saw a link on another site, found this one and thought it looked fun without bothering to check out any other sites first

2: I continue to write here because the community here seems to be vibrant, enthusiastic and all those other encouraging nothings that I'm supposed to blather on about. This genuinely seems to be a good group of people with a mix of backgrounds, and I like that.

So, next contestant on this grand merry-go-round of emotion and reason, step up and reveal to the world, or at least the tiny part of it that is going to read this post:

Why you write on Protagonize
