I fell asleep in Brody’s arms, still freaked out by everything that’d happened. It scared me that I could forget something about myself so easily. More memories of Brody biting me danced through my dreams, only succeeding in freaking me out even more.
"What's wrong?" Brody asked, kissing my cheek lightly when I woke up all freaked out.
“Another dream" I said, burying my head in his neck.
He kissed the top of my head, cuddling me a little tighter. His hand moved up to play with my hair as I fought back the tears that were threatening to consume me. I shut my eyes, clinging to him in silence. He didn’t break the silence until I faintly heard his stomach growl. I pulled back a little, my eyes still shut.
"You okay?" Brody asked.
I nodded. Who cares if I was lying?
He kissed my forehead. "I'll be back in like ten minutes"
I nodded again, resisting the urge to cry once he’d gone. He came back after a while and I instantly tensed up, smelling Lazarus on him. I sniffled when he didn’t seem to notice what it was that was bothering me.
He frowned, and then seemed to suddenly realise. "Shit, sorry"
I shook my head. "S'okay"
He sighed a little but didn’t argue. It didn’t take a genius to tell he didn’t believe me.
"We should get out of here" he said when I was quiet.
“We should go somewhere else. I don’t think anyone's gonna have a bitch fit if we disappear for a while."
"I dunno. I hadn't gotten that far yet"
I laughed a little, sniffling again.
"We just need to get away from people we know for a while. I can’t rely on people to sort out my thirst for me, or get your memories back" he said, looking like he was thinking about something. "I mean it’s up to you, of course"
I shrugged. "I don't mind"
He went back to thinking then and I kept quiet, watching him. He glanced at me after a while, shrugging. I sighed slightly, resting my head on his shoulder. I didn’t care where we went, just as long as it was away from Lazarus. Remembering the thing about being bitten and stopping those dreams would just be an added bonus. He cuddled me again.
"We can just stick a pin on a map and go wherever it lands?"
"Sure" I said quietly.
He kept his arms around me and I slipped into silence again, wondering just how long I could go without sleeping. I didn’t want to risk having another dream. I wouldn’t be able to cope if I did.
