By the time I get back to the hotel, Fate is not only awake, but apparently in the mood to pick a fight with someone. Which is... weird. He stares at me for a moment, before launching himself at me in a jump hug, making me drop my bag of clean clothes.
I hug back, kinda shocked by all the little kisses he's plastering all over me.
"Oh my God, you're back."
"Yup... with clean clothes," I mutter, pointing at the bag on the floor by my feet. He ignores that, still covering me in baby kisses. I smile a little. "Should've left a note. Sorry." He gives me a big kiss, that I return, still kinda weirded out over how enthusiastic he is to see me.
"I thought they took you."
"They...? Oh." I say, understanding suddenly. We cuddle, Fate burying his head in my neck.
"Don't ever do that to me again." I rest my head on top of his, mumbling some apology as he kisses my neck.
"Ran into Brendon while I was picking up the clothes," I mutter bitterly, "he wants to remind you that you're not mine. Oh, and those breeding pits? There're more of them. And I get the feeling they're not going to stay empty very long." He's quiet, but I don't need him to say anything. There's not really anything he could say. I just hug him a bit tighter and silently hate Brendon for ever coming into my life.
"Can we just fuck off somewhere he won't find us?" he mumbles.
"Where would that be?" I ask, not voicing the question that weighs more heavily on my mind - ‘what about our town?'
He shrugs, nuzzling me a little and humming as I kiss the top of his head. Fate seems quite content with just standing here hugging me, but... well, to be honest, I think we should go back. I voice that opinion. Fate just stares.
"I can't just abandon them all like that. I might not have been the nicest person to them, but they don't deserve that."
"Yeah, but... I mean... What about Brendon?"
"What about him?"
"What if he tries something?"
"He's already trying something by being on their side," I kind of growl, but apparently I'm missing the point.
"What if he does something to you?" he mumbles.
"I dunno," I sigh.
"I can't fight him, Brody."
"And I don't expect you to. Look, I'll be okay. I just can't sit around hiding from everything, hoping that it'll all blow over."
"Please, Brody. I just got you back." I bite my lip. I know, Fate, but I can't just... he buries his head in my neck again and I let out another sigh, hugging him again. He cuddles me and I shuffle backwards over to the bed so I can sit down. "Please," he mumbles. I'm not happy about this, and I fucking let him know it. "Please, Brody. Please just forget about it. We'll go somewhere else, start again."
"You expect me to just fuck off somewhere and forget about all my friends and family while those leeches..." I can't even finish that sentence. He kisses me, but I don't kiss back. I'm too busy trying to decide on what to do to notice whether he's bothered by that or not, but knowing Fate, he probably is.
I look at him, feeling him prodding me. He gives me this kinda questioning look, but I still don't know what to do. "Just leave it for now," he says, apparently noticing this. I flop back on the bed, hardly noticing as he snuggles up to me, my eyes fixed blankly on the ceiling. All I seem to be able to see is that little boy in the pen, imagining if he was a human. "Please, just leave it for now."
"I am. Believe me, I'd be back there causing hell if I wasn't leaving it." He hums, kissing my cheek as I go back to staring at the ceiling.
