Cara: Waited For So LongMature

I made Sam wait for a taxi to take her home after the fitting; her ankle was sore and she'd been limping more heavily as we headed to have some lunch.

"Really, I'm fine." She protested as I helped her up the steps. I rolled my eyes and carried on helping her up the stairs.

"You're full of shit, that's what you are."

"Your mouth-" She winced as we stopped at the door for her to get her keys.

"What about my mouth?" I raised my eyebrow and smirked at her. She chuckled and rolled her eyes.

"It's gotten filthy."

"How would you know?" I grinned, taking the keys from her because she was taking far too long. She was staring at me, a slight furrow between her eyebrows, and I had to duck in to the house to avoid the look.

"Shall we get you settled on the sofa? I can make you a bacon cob and some tea?"

"We just ate."

"Oh. Yeah. Well I can go if you want or...?"

"You're babbling."

"I'd noticed."

"Come and sit with me."

"Okay." I curled up on the sofa next to her, head on my propped up arm.

"When you said... about your mouth..." She started, phrasing everything carefully.

"Did you mean that you wanted me to kiss you?"

I tucked my legs up and wrapped my arms around them.

"I wouldn't mind. But... I know what you said about taking things slow is right. So... yeah."

"We could try just one?"

I bit my lip.

"Are you saying that because you think it's a good idea, or because you really want to?"

"Does it matter at this point?" We'd shifted a little closer, and I could feel her breath on my cheek, and my lips.

"I don't know."

Her hand lifted and the tips of her fingers trailed against my cheekbone. My eyes closed of their own accord and the breath left my body.

"Cara," she murmured, "Cara look at me." I forced my eyes open, and realised she'd moved closer. "I've missed you."

"I've missed you too. So much. And every day." I put my hand over hers, the one on my cheek, and stroked it with my thumb. And then, feeling brave, I tilted my head and placed a kiss on the pulse point of her wrist. She sucked in a breath and leaned forward, brushing her nose against mine.

"I won't be able to bear it if anything goes wrong again."

"I'm so sorry."

"Stop saying you're sorry. Please." She stroked my cheek again, tears in her eyes.

"I'll never be able to say it enough."

"You already have. I know, I know why you did it. It's not like you cheated or something Cara. You lied and it's a hard thing for me but you could have done so much worse. I forgive you."

I couldn't help but throw myself a little forward, holding on to her for dear life in a hug. She wrapped her arms around me, stroking my back.

"Maybe we'll try that kiss later?" She murmured in to my ear. I pulled back a little, wiping my eyes dry.

"Can we go for dinner tonight? A date. A proper date?"

"Are you asking me out?" She chuckled.

"We really are doing this differently," she chuckled.

"Hey!" I pretended to be offended. "I'd only just figured out I liked women and then you appeared all confident and sexy; how am I supposed to take the stronger role?"

"Confident and sexy hmmm?" She bit her lip and stroked my hand.

"So where are you taking this sexy, confident woman on our date?"

"Wherever she wants."

"Somewhere quiet. Maybe some live music."

"Your wish is my command."

"I love your hair long." Her fingers trailed in to my hair, and her nails scratched lightly against my scalp. I had to hold back a moan; she knows how that affects me.

"Me too."

"I should probably book a table..."

"We could just turn up..."

"Mmm?" Her fingers were scratching my scalp again, and I was forgetting why we were going slow.

"Cara..." Her breath was close again, and I opened my eyes again to see how close she was. I leaned a little closer until her nose was brushing mine again.

"Kiss me Sam..."

When her lips touched mine, for the first time in months, I felt like I would explode. I clung to her, feeling her nails scratch against my scalp, her lips moving against mine. I held her face gently, smoothing her skin with my thumb, and as we pulled apart, I rested my head against hers, unwilling to open my eyes and let the moment fade.

"God I've missed that," she whispered against my lips. I chuckled and gave her a peck on the lips.

"Me too."

The End
