"Oh Anna... That's terrible. Are they telling people? Do you want me to tell people here for you? Are you coming back?"
"I don't know yet. I am not sure what to do!"
"Does Megan know?"
No not yet. If I'm honest, I haven't comprehended it myself."
"That's not surprising. Do you think they'd be okay if I called?"
"I am sure they wouldn't mind. They have known you for a long time."
"Good... Good... God Anna I wish I could give you a hug. Do you want me to tell Ali and the rest?"
"Yeah, they will find out anyway. Cara, I wish this wasn't happening!" Anna was crying again and I couldn't do anything from here.
"I know... I know but... People live for longer now, even with stage 4. It doesn't mean she's right in deaths door!"
"I've only just resolved things with her. I can't lose her!"
"Anna... I'm sorry I can't help you. I wish I could make everything right."
"I'm just glad we are friends again Cara. I don't know what I would have done without you!"
"Anna don't be an idiot, we'll always be friends. You know I'd be there even if we hadn't made up,"
"Look I think you should go and tell Megan; have a good old cry and a hug with her, and then start thinking about what you're going to do."
"Yeah your right. I will speak to you later Cara, when I have sorted my head out a bit."
"Okay. Bye Anna."
As soon as the skype chat had finished, I had to call Anna's parents to offer my condolences. Her mum started crying, and I heard Anna's dad comforting her, before saying thank you to me and putting the phone down. I wanted to let my mum know, but I figured that if she didn't know, maybe I should just let them tell her. They were close friends after all.
My phone vibrated, and I wiped my eyes and picked it up.
"Sam, I can't really... it's a bad time."
"Oh. Sorry. I'll just call you later..."
"No, no it's... it's just I've had some bad news."
"Are you alright? Your mum? Anna?"
"It's Anna's mum. She's... well she's dying, and Anna's all the way out in America..."
"Oh god. Poor her. Poor Anna."
"Do you want me to come over?"
"Sam I think... I think maybe I should just tell the others now. We could meet up tomorrow, if there was something you wanted to talk about?" The other end of the line was quiet, and I frowned. "Sam?"
"Okay. Just... just let me know when you're free and what you want to do, and I'll be there. I promise."
"I..." I bit my lip. "Do you want me to bring your clothes back when we meet? I can wash them..."
"Don't... don't bother. I mean, don't put a wash on for them. Just... whenever you have time." It sounded like she wanted to tell me to keep them. That brought a small smile to my lips.
"Sure, okay. Thanks."
"Alright, I'll text you."
"Looking forward to it." I murmured, and waited until she replied 'me too', before hanging up, and going in search of everyone else to tell them the bad news.
