Anna: Quality TimeMature

My door buzzed and I opened the door to reveal a tear stricken Cara, her mascara had run and tears were rolling down her face and she just looked so lost without Sam that it was heartbreaking.

“Hey, come here!” I said pulling her into my arms and shutting the door behind me, “She won’t be gone all that long; she will be back before you know it.” I said soothingly.

“Yeah, I know but I still can’t bear the thought of her being so far away from me for that long. I mean what if something happens? What if she meets someone…. What if….”

“Now you’re just being silly Cara. She loves you and wouldn’t look at any other woman. She will be back before you know it and you will both be trailing ice down each others bodies before you can say I missed you.” I said and Cara gave a weak laugh and nudged me in the ribs. “Now come sit down and I will make you a cup of tea.”

I led her to the sofa and sat her down before heading towards the kettle and flicking the switch and grabbing two mugs which were sitting on the draining board waiting to be put away. Once I had made the tea I carried the two mugs over and set them down on the table, before sitting down on the sofa next to Cara, who still appeared to have tears in her eyes.

“So what film do you want to watch?” I asked her pulling a box full of DVD’s from beside the couch and setting it on my knee. “Horror, Drama, RomCom, Chick Flick, Sci-Fi, Action….. Take your pick” I said pushing the box towards Cara who began to peruse my collection of DVD’s with interest.

“Lets have a Harry Potter marathon” she said with a grin, grabbing the box set, “Little Mikey, put me in the mood for Harry Potter yesterday when he was casting spells left right and centre with that stick.”

I laughed, “Yeah he was so adorable, so much like his father however I thought his mother was a bit …. Uptight”

“Apparently that’s just how she is, apparently she is from a rich background and is very prim and proper, but not horrible otherwise Gray wouldn’t have married her,” Cara said taking a sip of her tea.

“Gray was very nice though, very sociable, like a kid really.”

“Haha, yeah he is really, reminds me a lot of Liam. Ever the joker.”

“Yeah I see what you mean,”

“I mentioned to Sam last night, how everyone in our group seems to now be in a relationship, apart from Liam.”

“Yeah. Aw well, I am sure we can hook him up with someone, how about Kate from the hospital?” I suggested, forgetting that Kate used to date Sam.

“Are you mad? Kate’s into girls!” Cara said looking puzzled as to why I had suggested Kate.

“Woops, I forgot,” I said laughing, “Well, Jak seems to be into lesbian girls, I thought Liam might be too.” I said and we both laughed.

“Come on, let’s go and get the popcorn and get started!”

Laughing a ran into the kitchen and grabbed the bag of goodies that I have bought for the DVD day with Cara, which included several big bags of popcorn each. I chucked a bag of sweet popcorn and a drink at Cara before putting on the first Harry Potter.

Several hours later and Cara and I had munched our way through several bags of popcorn and all of the chocolate and were only on the third film.

“God I feel so fat after eating all that, shall we go for a walk and take a break from Harry Potter?” I suggested.

“Yeah, sounds like a good idea actually, I could do with burning some calories.”

“There is nothing on you!”

“Nor on you, I think its more a case of why did we both have a second bag of M&Ms, that’s making us feel fat!” Cara said laughing.

“You needed cheering up and chocolate is the only way, I only ate that second bag because I didn’t want you to feel as bad!” I said, putting my hand on my heart and trying to look as though I had only Cara’s best interests at heart…. Which I did (plus I wanted more chocolate!)

Cara saw through this façade and laughed, “Come on, let’s go for a wander round the park, it’s a warm day!” Cara said, putting her arm round my shoulders and steering me towards the door.

We headed out of the flat and across the road towards the park; the sun was shining down, warming our heads as we walked. It was quite a quiet day, with not that many people milling around, and the silence was only interrupted when Cara’s phone started to ring.

She pulled it out of her pocket and squinted down at the screen before putting the phone eagerly to her ear.

“Hey Sam, did you get there alright?” she asked, a trace of worry in her voice.

“Oh that’s good, and what’s the room your staying in like?” she said, now sounding relieved.

“Brilliant, well I am glad you got there safely, take care. I love you” she said before hanging up the phone. “That was Sam, she is there safely.”

“See I told you that she will be alright, she is a big girl, and you worry too much!” I said pulling her into a hug.

“I know, but at least it shows I care,” she countered.

“Yeah, I know. Now lets see how much you care by going to feet the ducks on the lake.”

Cara laughed, “We haven’t fed the ducks together since we were kids!”

“Exactly. We can even get a little boat out onto the lake now its summer, if you fancy it?”

“Sounds like fun.”

We headed in the direction of the lake but about half way there Cara stopped.

“What’s wrong?”

“We need to buy some bread if we are going to feed the ducks!”

The End
