I smiled as I watched Sam laughing with Anna. At least they were getting along. Anna had said something funny and I had watched as Sam openly laughed, nothing fake about it at all. It looked like things might be a bit smoother in that part of my life.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Megan asked as we loaded another set of boxes in to the car.
"Just thinking how nice it is to see those two getting along."
"Oh yeah, Anna told me about the whole love triangle thing."
"Yeah?" I asked, curious, "What else did she tell you?"
"Oh just that and about her making some pretty crappy decisions..."
"Sorry. She probably shouldn't have said."
"No I mean, why should you be the only one that doesn't know? You're her friend, I understand."
"Sure? Well that's good. I mean I didn't want us to get off on the wrong foot. Sam seems great by the way."
"She really is."
"How'd you meet?"
"In a club. She saw my first gig, then came back to see another one."
"Love at first sight?"
"I guess. I mean the minute I saw her I thought she was sexy and everything but I guess love grows as you get to know people."
"Weird that you and Anna didn't work out then."
"Not really." I replied, stopping in my tracks. "Why would you say that?"
"Well you've known each other for so long and you had a relationship I mean... that obviously was important."
"No. It wasn't really a relationship I mean, it lasted all of a couple of days and we only kissed. Nothing really happened."
"Yeah but it was obviously important to her. If she still loves you just from that I mean."
I stood looking at her in silence for a while and then turned away, going back in the house. Jeez, one minute everything's fine and the next I'm thinking about that again... would it ever end?
"Hey, what's up?" Sam asked, passing me with another box.
"Nothing. Last night just hit me I think." I hurried up the stairs before she could ask anymore questions.
"Hey, anything else?" I asked Anna who was struggling with two big boxes, one of which I took from her.
"Nope, that's it. Wow, can't believe my life fits in to such a small space."
"Yeah I know. Weird isn't it?"
"Hey I never asked, how's life with Sam?"
"Good. Why'd you ask?"
"Just wondered. I mean you've been living together for a while now. It must be weird, living with someone like that."
"No, not really. We fit together like a glove I mean-"
"-I really don't want to know about how you two fit together." She chuckled as we made our way downstairs.
I shut up as we packed the last of the stuff in and then Anna and Sam climbed in to the car.
"See you there." Sam grinned and they drove off.
"Shall we walk?" Megan asked.
We didn't speak throughout the ten minute walk. She was too nervous I think, and I was deep in thought about everything that had happened since... well basically since we moved to uni.
"Hey! Come up and see the place! Grab a box!" Anna yelled as we reached her flat. Sam appeared down the stairs and gave me a peck on the cheek before grabbing the next box. I took one and hauled it up after her.
The flat was cool I had to admit, and when we'd finally finished we all sat down and cracked open some drinks Sam had bought from the shop downstairs.
"Congrats on the new place Anna." Sam grinned, staring around.
