That morning I went to my lectures, photocopied Ali's notes, and then went back to the flat for some well deserved food and the band meeting.
"Hey guys." I grinned, walking in to the kitchen. "Just let me grab some food, then I'll be with you." I started making a sandwich.
"What sort of music does Sam want us playing at this thing?" Jak asked, swigging his beer and burping.
"Oh, real attractive. I guess sort of... I don't know to be honest. I'll text her and ask." I got my phone out and sent her a quick text, then went and sat on the sofa.
"I'm not playing soppy shit." Jak moaned.
"I don't think it's soppy shit. I think she just wants... well, not our kind of party stuff." My phone vibrated.
I trust you to make that decision. Something nice. xx
"Alright, so I get to choose. Let's just go through all our playlists, and all the music files that we borrowed from the library, and see if there's anything there."
"Aye, aye captain." Callum said, grinning as he pulled out the folder from under the sofa. That was our version of keeping things tidy.
We spent two hours going through, making a list of things we liked and thought would suit the mood, and beginning to practice some of them. Anna appeared from her lectures and sat in for a while, offering suggestions. Then she disappeared to start getting ready.
"I didn't realise it was so late." I muttered, looking at the time on my phone. "Let's pack up and get ready for tonight. Are you two getting ready here or are you meeting us there?"
"We dumped our stuff in Liam's room. He's letting us stay."
"Awesome. Ok, well I'm going to go get ready. See you soon."
I disappeared in to my room and stripped, then rummaged through my wardrobe for something to wear. I slipped on my black skinny jeans and a shirt, then pulled on my heels. I surveyed the effect in the mirror. That'd do. I wasn't bothered about looking sexy. I looked good and I was going out to hang with friends. I didn't need to dress up all sexy because I already had a girlfriend.
I re-did my makeup, spiked my hair a little, and then went back to the living room. Jak and Liam were already out, sitting with beers and chatting. I twirled.
"What do you think?"
"Oh what? You get a girlfriend and suddenly you stop dressing slutty?" Jak joked. Liam kicked him.
"She never dressed slutty. And she looks good. You look good." He directed at me.
"Thank you." I grabbed a beer and joined them, waiting for Anna and Ali. "You know they'll take forever right?"
"I'm getting used to it." Liam chuckled. Callum appeared and sat next to Jak, having changed in to a shirt.
"So what's tonight in aid of?" Jak asked, glugging his beer.
"Pretty much felt that I'd not been hanging with you guys outside of band, and hadn't really hung out with Anna and Ali... Thought I'd put my friends before my girlfriend for a night. But we really ought to hang out all together you know. It would make it so much easier."
"It would huh?" Liam chuckled.
"Yeah. I just get the feeling that Anna isn't a big fan of Sam at the moment, and I want you all to love her. She's amazing."
"We get it. Don't go all soppy on us now." Jak chuckled. "But honestly, from what I hear, she's not so bad. Seems nice enough."
"Cheers. Well, you might just get to talk more to her at this arts evening. It's not just art; there's music and dancing and food... I think it's going to be good. Lots of important people go apparently."
"Huh, maybe we'll get signed." Jak muttered.
"Maybe..." I replied. Maybe that's why Sam had invited us in the first place. "But then again, if we don't practice enough, we'll never get anywhere."
"When is it?"
"Month and a half away. Saturday the eighteenth."
"Well that's alright then. Least it's not in exam time."
"Yeah, we'll have plenty of time off to practice."
