Anna pulled me in to my room and opened the wardrobe.
"Anna, what happened to your headache?"
"It pales in comparison to getting you dressed up."
"Did you just para-phrase?"
"Huh, writing class is going well then."
"Yes, now here. Wear these."
"Anna, it's just lunch. She's only got thirty minutes."
"Oh. She's not a student?"
"Where does she work?"
"I don't know, I didn't get a chance to ask."
"So she's older?"
"What's with twenty questions? Yes she's a little older."
"Sorry, I just don't want you going on a date with a randomer."
I laughed, happy to see Anna was still worrying over me as she used to.
"I'll be ok. And anyway, I'm wearing my jeans, converse and that shirt." I said pointing.
"What? No you're not. You can wear this."She pulled out a nice top with a bit of a low neck.
"Come on, it's helping my headache. Just try it on?"
"Fine." I frowned but took it and went in to my bathroom. When I emerged in the top and my jeans Anna grinned.
"No, Anna, it's just a casual lunch..."
"Yes, but if she's been working she'll probably be wearing something smart. Which means you have to dress in comparison."
"Which is why I want to wear the casual cotton shirt. I'll compromise and wear it with my brown boots if that helps."
"Try it on, let me look." She groaned and passed me the items in question.I went in to the bathroon and changed. When I appeared she smiled."Alright, you look good."
"Thanks. So can I go like this?"
"So, you really like her?"
"Yeah. I mean, I want to get to know her, and see where it goes..."
"Seems to me it already went somewhere. I saw you and her making out last night."
"You did? Well, I'd met her before, it wasn't like I was just kissing a stranger. She came to see me perform."
"That's nice. I just... I don't want to see you hurt."
"Anna. You're my best friend. I know you don't. But with her I really want to see what happens. She does it for me Anna, she really does. I mean, did you see how hot she is?"
"I can't really remember."
"Well I think if things go well you'll get to meet her anyway." I looked down at my phone. "Crap, I have to go. Wish me luck!" I grinned, hugging her.
"Good luck!" She called as I left, grabbing my bag on the way.Ali appeared and walked out with me.
We had to go to a lecture before meeting Sam, and the minutes ticked too slowly by. I was anxious. When the lecturer finally let us go I waved goodbye to Ali and headed off in to town. I reached the cafe 'Snaxs' with a few minutes to spare before we were supposed to meet. I checked my reflection in the window. I looked ok. Maybe I should have dressed up. Maybe I should have listened to Anna...
"Hey." I turned and saw Sam smiling, hands in her pockets. She was wearing smart black trousers and matching waistcoat, with a 3/4 length sleeved shirt underneath.
"Hey. Wow, you look, amazing."
"Why thank you." She grinned and came over, kissing my cheek. "You don't look to bad yourself."
"Not too bad? Oh really?" I grinned and allowed her to take my hand.
"You know what I mean." She grinned. "Come on, I'm starving."
We went in and sat down, and after we'd chosen from the menu and ordered I settled back in my chair and smiled at her.
"So, tell me about you." She said.
"What do you want to know?"
"Everything." She grinned and I laughed.
"That could take a while, I lead a very interesting life." I smiled.
"Well, I guess that means we'll have to have another date then."
"I'd like that." So far so good. And she really was gorgeous. "So me. Um I'm a student, studying english, and I dance."
"What types of dance?"
"All sorts. Ballet, modern, ballroom and latin..."
"Really? I'd like to see you dance."
I smiled and fought the blush.
"So what about you? What's this job of yours?"
"I work in the gallery up the road. It's called Pieces."
"A gallery? So you like art?"
"Yeah, well, some art."
"I'll have to come and look around sometime. You'll have to show me your favourites."
"I'd like that."
