Writing Prompt:Take the first sentence of the second paragraph on page 99 of the nearest book to you, and use it as the beginning of a short story of no more than 200 words.
He picked up his keys. (Taken from A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.)
He picked up his keys. They jangled merrily in his hand, almost as if they had a life of their own. Serj looked over to his Wife Mariah. "You ready to go babe?" She smiled, her teeth bright white, in contrast against her naturally bronzed skin. God she's beautiful. He thought.
"Ready as I'll ever be."
He smiled at her warmly, running his hand over her shoulder, leading her out of their front door, that was no longer theirs, and into his car. A '67 Chevy Impala his Dad would have been proud of. Mariah hated it, in all it's flat black, air ride suspension glory, but she would never make him get rid of it. She climbed in with a mock grimace, as she always did.
Serj put his keys in the ignition and twisted, the engine coming to life in a deafening, but blissful roar. Time to leave their home of twenty years behind. Serj laid a light kiss on his Wife's forehead before backing the car out of the drive for the last time.
"Here's to new beginnings babe." He just hoped they'd get away before anyone discovered the body...
