"It was a lifetime of cruelty, the fact that he survived this long is literally a miracle."
I look up at police officer Ronald and Susan. Are they talking about me?
"Simon has a few scars and cuts, but the evidence that we found in his house is solid. There's no way those two will get away with this."
"So, I'm guessing you want me to take care of Simon, see if I can get him out of his cage."
"I'll see what I can do."
Officer Ronald left the room and Susan went on her knees across from me.
"Hi Simon! How are you sweetie?"
I don't say anything, I just try to back away further but I can't.
"It's okay Simon, I'm not going to hurt you."
Her voice is so soft, so sweet. I edge towards her, wanting to feel the warmth of her kind words.
"Thats it. Good boy!"
Susan picks me up and holds me close. I rub my head against the bottom of her chin and start to purr, happy to be held again.
