The SeaMature

First Mate Katrin Sweeney

As I closed the door behind John and I, I looked longingly baxk at it. Daydreaming, again, I bumped onto Sarah. She smiled at me and clapped me on the back, congratulating me on the kiss last night. Being the only other girl on the ship, I considered her my best freind, aside from Christian, of course. She was the one I could talk to about anything, espeially my feelings for Christioan. I sighed and smiled back at her, climbing the stairs to the deck.

I yelled at the crew a little, my usual greeting, then leaned aginst the railing, staring out at the ocean. I let my mind wander, thinking back to times when I was little, before my parents died....

On my first birthday, my cake was pink. I don't know why I remember this, but I do. Maybe becuase I hate that color. Either way, it was my mom's favorite color, so my entire first birthday was pink. Even then, it drove me crazy. I remember wearing a pink frilly dress, my blonde hair tied into pigtails with pink bows. Even before the party started, I tried to tear off the dress....

I'm snapped out of it by a call from John. He came over to me and stood by me, also looking into the ocean. The same color as...

"That girl's eyes." I heard John say. I scowled. Not at all. More like Christian's....

John saw the look on my face and gave me a curious look.

"What's wrong?" he asked. I sighed.

"Nothing." Then I looked at hiom sharply. "Why aren't you working?" I demanded.

He smiled at me mischeviously, then ran off the other direction. I just smiled and turned back towards the sea. Exactly like Christian's eyes...
