“What colour do you think I’ll look good in?” Melissa asked me as she pointed at pictures of dresses in her magazine. We say in her hospital room scanning over prom dresses and talking about dates.

How I became friends with her so easily is still a mystery to me, but in a very good way, it’s nice to have girlfriend that I can talk to. And it gives me some space from Wolf so I’m not clinging to him all the time.

One of the first things that Melissa noticed about me is the necklace that I wore around my neck and the supposed ‘glow’ that I had. I danced around her questions about the necklace but she was no fool when it came to my ‘glow’.

“I can see it Akira, something or someone is the cause of that and I’m not going to relent until I found out whom or what.” She had said to me a few hours ago. I shrugged off her comment and handed her the magazines that I brought.

So here we sit with her flipping through and pointing out dresses that both one of us could wear and what dresses neither of us should wear. This was all too surreal. I never even dreamed about going to the prom let alone picking a dress, plus I can’t go with Wolf because he’s a teacher so I’ll end up standing in the corner praying for the night to be over and done with so I can go home and be with Wolf without having to worry about us being seen or not.

“Who are you going to the prom with Akira?” Melissa asked me. I bit my lower lip.
“I don’t know.” I lied smoothly. She looked at me with a questioning look. I sighed and looked down at my cast.
“There isn’t anyone that I want to go with.” Or can go with I added silently. Melissa continued looking at me. I squirmed beneath her gaze.
“What?” I asked with my cheeks feeling hot.
“I know Akira. I can see it all over your face at school.” Melissa said softly. I opened my mouth to deny it but my phone started to ring. I dug it out of my pocket and flipped it open.
“Hello?” I answered. At first I was answered by heavy breathing and subtle
“Akira is that you?” My step father said into my ear. I contemplated hanging up but he calling me is extremely unusual.
“Yes, why are you calling me?” I asked him warily. He was silent for another moment. I tapped my fingers against the phone in agitation.
“Something’s happened to your mother. I cannot find her anywhere.” He said in a hopeless tone. I rolled my eyes.
“Did you check the pub?” I asked him blandly.

“Yes, she wasn’t there, I’ve looked everywhere for her but it’s like she just vanished into thin air. I bet it was that man who took her, he’s been hanging around a lot lately.”  Gavern, my stepfather said. I frowned.
“A man? What kind of man?” I asked him suspiciously. He coughed into the phone.

“I don’t know, he was tall and looks quite muscular.” He said past more coughing. I felt as if my blood had frozen in my veins and my heart skipped precious beats. He couldn’t have…
I hung up on Gavern without saying good bye and slowly stood up. Melissa watched me silently I was grateful that she didn’t ask any questions.
“I have to go. I’ll be back in sometime later.” She nodded and watched as I walked out of the room on what felt like numb legs.

I caught a taxi to school and headed straight for Wolf’s office where he sat marking students work. I opened the door calmly and stepped inside and eyed him from across the office. He looked up at me and watched me with a small frown. Instead of going to him I leant back against the door and folded my arms across my chest.

“What’s the matter?” He asked when I continued to watch him.
“What did you do with my mother?” I asked him bluntly. He frowned and slowly

“Nothing.” He said. I scoffed and pushed away from the door. I walked over to his desk and looked down at the papers that sat there. I scanned them not really sure what I was looking for.

“Please Wolf tell me. My step father saw you, so why lie about it?” I asked him past the sudden lump in my throat. He frowned at me.
“I’m not lying.” He said with his eye’s going darker. I took in a deep shaking breath.

“Wolf please tell me what you did to her.” I pleaded. He remained silent and just looked at with an unreadable expression.

“Please Wolf. I need to know.” I whispered. He watched me for another moment, his eyes seeming to freeze me from the inside out. And with saying anything more he walked out of the office.
I brought my hands up to my face and backed up until I fell into the chair that sat in front of his desk.

I sat there with tears pouring down my cheeks and my heart feeling like it was bleeding from a thousand wounds. What have I done? How could I ruin something so rare and precious because of a stupid suspicion?

I don’t know how long I sat there and wept. All I know is that it felt like forever. Have I lost the love of Wolf? I reached up and touched the necklace at the base of my throat as another fierce wave of sorrow ripped through me.
What the Hell have I done?

The End
