Is she Human?Mature

I shivered at the memory of Eric kissing me and the satisfying slap of my hand against his cheek.
On the way home Wolf didn’t stop frowning which in turn made me smile.
“It’s okay Wolf.” I reassured him.

“He had no right to touch you.” He growled.
I smiled at him and reached over to clasp his hand within mine. He pulled it up to his lips and pressed a small kiss to the back of my palm.
My heart swelled with love for him at the small gesture.
“You’re right, he didn’t but it was nothing compared to how you kiss me.” I said to him softly.

He grunted in response but I saw the small smile on his lips.

We had dinner watching a movie that I couldn’t remember the title of. Wolf cooked a beautiful meal some French or Italian name that I couldn’t pronounce.
We looked out at the full moon and talked about sweet nothings until midnight. On Sunday Wolf slept deeply and I couldn’t help but watch him most of the day.
How someone so beautiful could make me feel like I could fly was beyond me.

I traced his features with my fingertips. Over his forehead and eyelids, down his nose and across his lips, I thought I saw them curve into a small smile I
hoped that they did but he was sleeping so soundly that I knew it was
Curling my body against his I lay my head against his chest and listened to his deep and even breathing.

I hadn’t realised that I had fallen asleep until I woke up hours later and Wolf was still sound asleep.
Sighing I got up to use the bathroom and have something to eat. But feeling
suddenly lonely I went back to Wolf and lay next to him again.
I whispered to him as he slept, told him about my childhood and my favourite music and what books I like to read, I told him what I though about Zane and the play but the last thing I could think to tell him slipped past my lips as I leant over him.
“How I love you so.” I whispered softly.
Pressing a small butterfly kiss to his jaw I lay back down again and slowly drifted back to sleep.

I woke up the next morning to the smell of bacon and the sounds of frying food.
I climbed out of bed, slipped into Wolf’s robe and padded into the kitchen.
Wolf pushed a plate toward me and motioned for me to eat. I quickly shovelled
the food down and ran to get ready for school.

When we were both dressed and ready to go, we packed into his car and headed toward school.
We arrived early so I followed him to his office and sat with him and watched him mark work until the first bell to go to class.

I exited his office and made my way towards maths.
I was walking along thinking about Zane when I felt the hairs at the back of my neck stand on end. Slowing down I looked behind me but everyone were too busy rushing toward their class to pay me any notice.
Frowning I shook my head and continued toward class.

But as I rounded the corner I bumped into a very feminine body.
Recoiling and grimacing at the shock of pain that reverberated up my broken arm
I stared up in shock at the site of Denise standing before me.

Her eyes locked on the necklace around my neck.
I brought my hand up and curled it around the necklace protectively and took another step away from her.

“How cute.” She said with a feint menacing growl.

Swallowing my fear I tilted my head up in defiance.
“Wolf gave it to me.” I said proudly.

She laughed a short laugh and again smiled that annoying faux smile.
“I know he did, but what did you do to deserve such a gift?” She asked sweetly.

I shrugged.
“He didn’t tell me that part. Plus haven’t you heard of the say, ‘don’t look gift a horse in the mouth’?” I asked her just as sweetly.

Her brow furrowed in confusion but cleared again within a heartbeat.
Humph, some poker face, I thought almost bitterly.

“Don’t think I’ve ever heard of such a saying, but I didn’t come here to talk quotes with you.” She said with a wink.

I shifted my stance, suddenly feeling uncomfortable and extremely unsafe.
"Then what is it that you wanted to say to me?” I asked with feigned interest.

“Oh nothing much. Just thought that I’ll let you know that as of today I am the school’s new receptionist.” She said with her smile.

I felt the blood drain from my face.
“The new receptionist? What happened to Mrs Kindle?” I asked in disbelief.

She bit her bottom lip and cocked her head.
“She had a little… accident. Poor thing slipped down the stairs at home and broke her hip. How tragic.” She said with a shake of her head.

“And they just decided to hire you?” I asked with a frown.

She tipped her head back and laughed.
“Of course they did silly!” She teased.

I opened my mouth to reply but she held up her hand.
“I really must be going. Files to read and phones to answer. Ciao for now Akira.” And with a small mocking smile she saunted away.

I scowled at her retreating back.
What is it about her that has my hackles rising and making me want to hide at the same time?
Just who was this woman?
And what does she want?
Putting the questions out of my head and headed to maths. Denise is only human
she can’t do anything to hurt me.

The End
