Walking to English class the next day proved to be a task.
Everyone seemed curious as to what the whole rumour with Wolf and I was about.
I avoided all of their questions and walked faster but they just followed.
Under all the unexpected attention I started to sweat and become nervous. I wiped my clammy hands on my jeans and ignored all of the bustling excitement around me.
I thought back to yesterday with Wolf and the...kiss we shared, and my body tingled in memory at the feel of him at the sight of desire in his eyes.
The sheer heat of him and his passion made my whole body flush and my heart flutter in excitment. I felt shamed that I put an end to it, but I knew that it was the right thing to do. The bitter emotions of seeing him with that women were all that I could think about.
Wolf had made me melt, made me sweat and forget the world.
He made me feel safe and feel like I could rule the world as he held me in his arms.
I looked up when I heard familiar laughter.
I looked to my right and saw Zane cuddling Melissa to him and smiling as she whispered sweet nothings in his ear.
I waited for the feeling of rejection or even anger but I felt… happiness. Zane deserved to be happy and it looks as if Melissa can give him that so who am I to frown upon it?
Smiling softly I continued on to English class but I didn’t get very far.
Standing three feet away stood Wolf’s mystery red head.
Today she wore form tight blue jeans and black tank top.
Did this chick own anything that didn’t display her so openly?
Warily I looked into her cat-like gaze and only barely contained my flinch.
She smiled a cheek splitting smile. The smiled caused shivers to skitter down my spine and continue on to my toes.
“Why hello there. You must be Akira.” She said.
Her voice was like listening to a song. Her voice seemed to sing to me, urging my feet to tap along to her syllables and my arms to sway by my sides.
I tensed all of my muscles and resisted the urge to dance.
“Yes, and you are?” I asked.
“Oh you’re feisty. No wonder he likes you.” She said in her lyrical voice.
“You didn’t answer my question.” I stated.
What the hell was I doing? Where did this sudden bravado come from?
And why the hell didn’t it show up earlier?
“The name’s Denise Flare. Nice to meet you.” She said sweetly.
I gritted my teeth together.
“What do you want?” I asked her.
She laughed the grating laugh again and cocked her head in thought.
“Well I want a lot of things.” She said with a wink.
My hands curled into fists.
“You can’t have him.” I growled out.
Her smiled widened.
Something in the pit of my stomach twisted, warning me that something wasn’t right.
Screaming at me that something was very wrong.
Shaking away the feeling of dread I waited for her reaction.
But all she did was smile at me.
“Can’t have whom?” She asked.
I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
“You know who.” I quipped.
“You mean Wolf? Oh honey, bless your heart I don’t want him. It’s quite clear that he’s rather entranced by you.” She said past that aggravating smile.
I felt that with every word that came out of her mouth was some sort of threat, that underneath her polite manner something more darker and sinister lurked.
I heard the first bell sound but I didn’t move. I kept my eyes locked on Denise.
She watched me with a disturbingly astute gaze.
“Shouldn’t you be heading off to class?” She teased.
I nodded and skirted around her.
She followed me with her eyes as I slowly skirted around her and rushed to English class.
And I still couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.
That I may be walking down a very dangerous path…
I shook my head and pushed the thought away.
