Writing Exercise #01 - 22/11/10

"Choose something that you love or feel passionate about and write a short piece from the point of view of a character with the opposite opinion."

One of my cousins has taken up Irish dancing recently. I saw her photos. I can't understand why she would want to, though, from what I've seen. I mean, there were some dancers at a festival I went to and it was mega strange, to be honest. All legs and no upper body - I'm sure you know what I mean.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the costumes! I mean, they're tacky and ridiculous: the dresses are hideous, with no exceptions, the wigs are patently stupid and the socks and shoes are just weird. Who wears buckled shoes nowadays? It's the twenty first century!

That was before she told me about the injuries. I don't know why she even bothers, what with the 2-hour training sessions that leave her having to see a physiotherapist. It's just torturing herself. Add that to the 5 o'clock starts when she's competing far from home and you have the recipe for a family breakup.

That's what I told her. She wasn't best pleased and told me to keep my nose out of her business, but I was only trying to stop her from making a complete fool of herself. It's not my fault if she didn't listen, is it?

The End
