The welcome feast was wonderful, as usual, with the hall spectacularly decorated for the occasion. Even though I was in my fifth year at Hogwarts, the great hall still never failed to surprise me. What would have made my first evening back at Hogwarts perfect would have been spending it with Tobias, but he was sitting on the other side of the hall with his fellow Hufflepuffs.
Aria started to get annoyed with me when I kept smiling at him from across the tables and made me swap seats with Beth so I couldn't look at him without turning around.
'So I don't understand why you're dating him,' Aria said as she piled food on her plate. 'He has such a bad reputation when it comes to girls and I'm not sure if he's only just friends with that Janice Laws.'
'You're worrying over nothing,' Beth interjected. 'I'm friends with Janie and she isn't into him. They're not going to be a couple any time soon.'
'Yes but it doesn't matter if she likes him or not.' Aria turned to me, her serious face on. 'I don't want to hurt you Hollow, but if Janie isn't in love with Tobias, then that's going to make her a lot more attractive to him. He's the kind of guy who loves a conquest and a girl who doesn't find him attractive will be all the more appealing.'
'You don't have to tell me that. But I think you're not giving Tobias a fair chance. I know him and I know Janie and neither of them are interested in dating the other.' I could feel a grin spreading over my face as I thought about what I was going to say next. 'And besides, Tobias has said there is only me. I'm the one he wants to be his girlfriend.' I put my hand up quickly to stop Aria retaliating. 'Now can we please change the subject, I don't want us to fall out over this. You are still the most important.'
I could see Aria fighting with herself to prevent a smile from creeping onto her face but she didn't succeed. 'OK then, I'll shut up about it if you promise to tell me everything about what's going on between the two of you and you allow me to beat him up if he hurts you.'
'Deal,' I said laughing. 'Now, tell me more about your holiday with your grandparents in China. Oriental magic sounds fascinating.'
