Milo stared downward at the aqua nailpolish chipping from her toenails the same as it would any human. And since when did your parents, or lack thereof, define that?, she thought. She felt the shower drain grate the bottom of her circling foot, relishing the pain. With her hair pitifully stuck around the sides of her neck, she could have hugged her knees in the shower for the rest of her life. And at the end of it all, she mused, I'd be there. Parading for humanity; oh how far we've come.
