Some Favorite Books:
Life of Pi
By Canadian author Yann Martel.
I love this book. A young boy stranded in a lifeboat with an orangutan, a zebra, a hyena, and a Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker. One of the best things I've ever read.
Fight Club
by American Author Chuck Palahniuk
Great book by a first time author. It's very smartly written with a plot and theme never quite approached before. The movie is pretty good too. People are always asking me if I know about Tyler Durden.
Some Favorite Authors:
Kurt Vonnegut
I love Vonnegut's way of using the most bizarre and imaginative scenarios to explain the futility and meaninglessness of human existence. To him, no one has ever done anything very great. It's all just folly.
Quote: "If you can do a half-assed job of anything, you're a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind."
Samuel Beckett
Beckett also has a most enthralling way of describing futility. Most of his stories are full of utter despair, but I find them very entertaining to read. He seemed to be obsessed with death. He had a way of describing things in great detail, but it's never completely clear what he's describing until he's done.
Quote: "Just under the surface I shall be, all together at first, then separate and drift, through all the earth and perhaps in the end through a cliff into the sea, something of me. A ton of worms in an acre, that is a wonderful thought, a ton of worms, I believe it."
More when I can think of a few...
