Dance until they kill us, and then we'll dance some more. That's how this thing seems to work.
~ Shane Claiborne, 'The Irresistible Revolution'
To Protagonize, I'm known as Delorfinde or Del, but you can also call me Miriam if you prefer it, because I don't really mind. They both feel like my names :)
There is a place in Scotland that's name translates as 'The Inaccessible Pinnacle'. I don't live there, but I think the name is amazing, hence that's what I've put as my location.
I really haven't been around much recently and even though my GCSE year is probably the wrong year to come back, I am determined to spend more time here, actually reading and commenting and writing as well as just talking to people I met two and a half years ago when I joined. Which means, I'm looking for new people to talk to whose works I can read, which means you have to talk to me.
I write because I have to. Literally. I have what most people would call an overactive imagination, and if I don't write it goes into overdrive. However I also write because it's amazingly fun and addictive.
I keep a regular blog over here, but I also guest-blog at Mark Williams International, as does SpookOfNight.
You'll notice that I have a lot of works on the site, and that most of them are pretty old. I don't tend to put my best work up, so this isn't really an accurate representation of my writing ability, but feel free to read them anyway. I hope to have some new stuff up soon.
A little bit about me. I own a very eclectic collection of books; I'm sure there are far too many children's books in there. I read too fast and too often, and have to go to the library more regularly than is really normal.
I'm a dancer and want to teach ballet as my career, as well as writing. I play the violin, flute and piccolo; I'm also learning the mandolin for several reasons. I am a member of far too many clubs and societies and stuff, so rarely have time to actually socialise. But that's cool with me.
I also listen to an odd combination of music. If my MP3 player is on shuffle (something I tend to avoid), it'll go from Stravinsky's Firebird or Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet to Queen or My Chemical Romance ... not something you really want when you're trying to sleep. I'm also mildly obsessed with Frank Turner and Jonas & Plunkett. At the moment, I have so much love for Shostakovich it's not even real.
I'm a nerd and nerdfighter, a Whovian, a frood (I hope), a rather amateur Trekkie ... basically, I'm a sci-fi geek, and that's anything from Star Wars to Torchwood, taking in most of the stuff in between. Talk to me about Doctor Who and you'll still be on the computer in an hour's time. Diss Doctor Who and I'll find out where you live... As for BBC's Sherlock, well...!
The authors that influence my work are Maggie Stiefvater, Kate Thompson, Jonathan Stroud, Holly Black, Stephen Lawhead, and Frances Hardinge. I especially recommend you check out Maggie Stiefvater, because not only is she the biggest influence on me, she's also hilarious and her blog is a joy to read.
As for other influences, I'm fascinated by Celtic mythology, which will become apparent if you read any of my work, or any of Maggie Stiefvater, Kate Thompson or Stephen Lawhead's work! :)
That's quite enough drivel in here. Please come and talk to me, I would be happy to procrastinate on site even more than I already do ... but I'd rather you didn't ask me to join incredibly active collabs as keeping up with them when I'm sometimes offline for days at a time is very hard work!
Oh, and I recommend you check out the music of Andy Wilsdon (search him on YouTube or something), because ... well, because he wrote a song inspired by my book so I'd like to support him.
"# We live to dance another day / Just now we'll have to dance for one more of us / So stop looking so damn depressed / And sing with all your heart / Long live the Queen. # ~ Frank Turner (Long Live The Queen)"
