Why does the caged bird sing?

The inspiration for my name came from the idea of someone being at peace in the sky. A person who only feels truly free when they’re flying so close to heaven they could touch it. When they are forced to return to earth once more to live their mundane life they spend all their time yearning to fly again. Perhaps never finding peace again because for an instant they found perfection and they can’t forget it. Forever stained by the memories of what they had. However that doesn’t mean they still can’t search for it, doesn’t mean they should give up and doesn’t mean they can never find happiness again.

I have had several accounts on Protagonize before but have had to delete them for various reasons. This is my current and, hopefully, last one.

I have wanted to be an author ever since I was nine and I hope to make that dream come true one day, fingers crossed.

Writing and imagining are my favourite things to do with reading coming a close second, though I could never say what my favourite book is and have to settle with a shortlist. At the moment they include Terry Prattchett's Tiffany Aching series, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan. By “at the moment” I mean they are liable to change at any time, depending on my mood and what I'm currently into.

The books that inspired me most of all as I grew up were the mammoth Animorphs series by K.A. Applegate and, of course, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. The themes of fantasy, child soldiers and a progressingly darker series that I took from these have become some of the staples of my own writing.

I also like to listen to music, comedy and I am an amateur photographer. Variety is apparently the spice of life, and if that’s true then variety is probably oregano. This is reflected in my tastes; my music ranging from classical to heavy rock and my art of everything from sunsets to a policeman on roller skates. Music and art I find help inspire me, giving me ideas and broadening my mind.

Now for some random information about me. My current profile picture is one I took myself outside the Paris Opera House, I like playing with words and phrases, I have a small obsession with stationary, particularly colouring pencils and I can also recite whole comedy routines from memory.
