Yo, I'm just some regular kid about to enter college; I like to try at writing, but I know that a lot of what I write is flawed, so I'm really anticipating your help! :D
What else, I like reading and writing, and pick-up games of football and basketball with friends. I'm astonishingly boring right? You betcha!
I read too much contemporary fiction, so I think I try to evoke their writing styles within my own, which is bad; have you ever heard the story of how like, university professors won't let fledging writers read Joseph Conrad? I finally understand that thought process! XP I really like Haruki Murakami, and Dave Eggers. I know I know, I need to branch out a lot more, but hey that's what higher education's for, right? But anyway, I think I need a lot of help with pacing, and like creating stuff, and just... improving in general. I'm thinking of the future WAY too much; I want to try to go to Iowa for grad school, but then again I haven't even entered college yet, much less decided on one. It's between going to Irvine or waiting on Boston College. Meh.
But other than that, what else... I hate pretensions, aaaaaand, bugs, and loud noises. S'all I got. XP
How does one deem oneself a writer? Is it based on their ability to tell a story, or to express their thoughts, or to share their hearts with the world? If we're going with that, then wouldn't everyone be a writer? What's essential is growth, I think. The growth of one's art as a whole never ends. You could say that the defining part of a writer is growth. So to be proud of being a writer is pointless, because basically you're pointing out your incompleteness; there's no endpoint in one's writing, there's no finality to the ability that grows within you. So in the end we're just growing, growing, growing, day to day like everyone else; so there isn't really that big of a distinction between being a writer and being a person, we express the same sentiments and emotions and depth and all of that. What I'm trying to say is that I think it's prickish when someone's all up in your face acting all smart because HEY THEY WRITE LOL. /petty teenage angst. :|
I generally mark stuff I want to read later, then un-mark it when I'm done reading it.
