"In life, people tend to wait for good things to come to them. And by waiting, they miss out. Usually, what you wish for doesn't fall in your lap; it falls somewhere nearby, and you have to recognize it, stand up, and put in the time and work it takes to get to it. This isn't because the universe is cruel. It's because the universe is smart. It has its own cat-string theory and knows we don't appreciate things that fall into our laps." (The Game - Neil Strauss)

I discovered this site one day while perusing facebook and I discovered that, despite my apprehensions, this site is probably one of the best I’ve seen for writers seeking to advance their abilities. I am someone who is not very good with writing about myself as I am a lot better at writing about my fictional self, or others. I live in Ottawa, Canada, where I have lived my whole life, despite a brief one year move to Toronto. I have been writing as long as I have been able to. I can’t even begin to estimate the number of stories, poems, and other miscellaneous pieces I’ve written over the years. I’ve always been very private about what I write but I think that this website provides me with an excellent opportunity to submit my work in a somewhat anonymous way.

I can’t say that I have one favorite book or even a favorite genre. I think that reading is probably the best way to spend time and, if it was possible, I would do nothing but read and write for the rest of my life. I tend to gravitate towards historical fiction, fantasy, chick lit, and anything else that tickles my fancy. Some of my favorites are; “What’s Bred in the Bone” by Robertson Davies; the entire “Emperor” series by Conn Iggulden; the “Harry Potter” series by J.K. Rowling; the “Shopaholic” series by Sophie Kinsella; and anything Shakespeare. I dabble a bit into the graphic novels as well. I worked in a book store for just over a year and it was one of the best places I could have ever worked. Had finances not been an issue I would have worked there until they forced me to retire. I think that reading is a pass-time that too few people these days participate in and I think it’s very important for people to read because it allows us to completely immerse ourselves in our imaginations and that is the best place to be.

Writing, for me, is my way of attempting to be one of those people that provides that imaginative escape. I do it more for myself than others since, until now, I’ve been very quiet about my passion. I think that creativity is very important and people should feel free to explore it to their fullest potential. I won’t lie and say that I don’t care if I’m ever published or recognized for my writing one day, but I am realistic and I know how hard it is and I know that the odds are not in my favour. Regardless of this fact, I continue to write, because I love to and because it allows me to turn my daydreams and fantasies into something a lot more tangible. I have yet to post anything because I’ve been paranoid about copyright and because I’ve never really allowed a large audience of people to read my writing. Despite this fact, it’s time to bite the bullet, please feel free to critique and make suggestions. I welcome constructive criticism.

Happy reading/writing~*
