I am a sometimes writer with a propensity for editing my works to death until I lose all desire to continue. This format appealed to me since I would be unable to edit after 24 hours so the stories can move forward.
I used to draw maps all the time and have found that is one of the reasons I love fantasy. I find it irritating when fantasy books don't have a map to act as an interesting story supplement. My love of maps lead me to Fantasy, which is my favorite genre.
In addition to Fantasy and Sci-fi, I am also a big fan of Historical Fiction and plain old good yards (classics or otherwise). Some of my favorite authors are...
George R R Martin
Guy Gavriel Kay
Steven Erikson
Robin Hobb
I don't watch TV much but I consider myself somewhat of a movie buff. I enjoy movies of all genres, though I lean towards action movies if I am watching it on a big screen. Martial arts movies are a big draw for me, even some of the bad ones (Rapid Fire comes to mind). I think my favorite martial arts movie has to be "Ong Bak" - Tony Jaa blows my mind.
I am also a bit of a hockey nut (Go OILERS!!) and can be pulled into a conversation about it with ease. One of my most poignant memories was leaving the Dallas Edmonton playoff game when they were down 3-0 with 5 minutes to go and missing the comeback in the 1997 playoffs. I left the game and went accross the street to the pub and watched the remainder on the big screen there. I remember when they scored the winning OT goal I danced around in a circle hugging the big smelly total stranger and loving every minute of it. man I love hockey.
Don't let all that sports nut stuff fool you though. I am pretty "artsy" in my leanings. I have a love of music (performing and listening) that runs deep and deeper the older I get. I haven't performed in over a decade (since I had kids), but I miss it terribly. Add that to a love of poetry and you have lyrics, though I don't think I was ever good at writing music.
I welcome all additions to any story that I make - don't be shy. It's more fun the more people who show interest so if you feel like you might want to jump on one of my literary boats, please do so.
